The Cypher System Character Builder (CSCB) is an immensely helpful and easy-to-use tool that makes creating Cypher System characters even quicker and easier (if that was even possible)! Though still in its beta release, it’s a great tool for building, advancing, maintaining, and gaming with Cypher System characters.
If you haven’t used the CSCB yet, we’d highly recommend you skim this article first!
Pregenerated characters have landed!
With pregenerated characters, you can focus on the story and fun rather than character creation details! They let you jump straight into the fun, without getting bogged down in the details. Quickly join an ongoing campaign, or whip up a brand new party for your friends to play with; don’t stress about having a character prepared for your GM’s one shot, or worry about teaching your partner the rules of character creation for their first taste of tabletop gaming. Just grab a pregen, choose to customize it or not, and get going!
There are now three ways to generate characters in the CSCB:
- The Guided method walks you through the character generation process step by step. You can make a character in minutes, for virtually any genre!
- If you like to roll up your sleeves, an Unguided option lets you build characters however you like. (This method is particularly handy if you want to enter an existing character into the Character Builder.) You can build new characters according to your vision, or take advantage of randomly generated options that take you in a direction you hadn’t considered.
- And now, the Pregen Characters option lets you pick from an extensive library of characters, based on your genre and character role choices. Pregenerated Characters are a convenient option for players who want to jump right into the action. These characters come with all the classic abilities and skills, ensuring a great game. They are ideal for new players or one-shot adventures where time is limited.
Navigating and customizing pregenerated characters
Filter by genre—post-apocalyptic, high fantasy, superhero, and so on—or by the type of character you want to play, to get instant options at your fingertips!
Click the pregen you want, and it’ll automatically be added to the campaign you’re playing! Once you pick your pregen, our system will prompt you to give it a good name—this is also the time to make any changes you’d like to make to your character (but don’t worry, you can always edit a character in the future as well).
Portraits make your character even more unique!
Customize your pregen—or any character you’ve built with the CSCB—further by assigning it one of our dozens of portraits! Show off what your character looks like to your friends, whether your group plays online or in person. To change your character’s portrait, navigate to the Character Details page and click the + in the upper left hand of the screen. You can sort the available portraits by genre to quickly find the right image to fit your character. You can always change this image later if your vision of your PC changes!
