GenCon is just two weeks away, and we’re getting ready for all the cool events we have planned. Charles Ryan, Shanna Germain, and I will all be there from Monte Cook Games, plus we’ll have on hand editor Ray Vallese, and Ninth World Hub coordinator David Wilson Brown. Plus, Robin and Colin from 3lb Games (creators of the Numenera app) will be around. And yes, that’s Colin McComb–of the clan McComb–who is also the lead designer for Torment: Tides of Numenera.
The Booth
We will be in booth 1201, along with DriveThruRPG, our partners in getting ebook versions of Numenera out there to you. You should come by, as we’ll have a number of great releases available, including of course the Numenera corebook and the Player’s Guide, but also XP Decks, Cypher Decks, Numenera dice, Numenera miniatures from Reaper, posters, and more.
Plus, Shanna and I will be doing signings there (not just for Numenera–these are general signings if you want to bring by your copy of D&D 3rd Edition, Ptolus, or Geek Love).
My personal booth schedule will be:
Thursday: 10 AM to Noon
Friday: 11 AM to 1 PM
Saturday: 10 AM to 11 AM and Noon to 1 PM
Sunday: Noon to 2 PM
This schedule as well as Shanna’s will be posted in the booth.
The Launch Event
The official launch of Numenera is Event SEM1345848 at 4 PM until 6 PM on Thusday at GenCon. The event will be in the Westin, in the Capitol II room. Please make note of this and help spread the word, as it won’t be in the GenCon onsite booklet. They have chosen not to list the events already known to be really popular. (I know. Don’t ask. It doesn’t make any sense to us either.)
The event is technically sold out, but you know how those things go. Not everyone shows up, and there will be room for more than GenCon planned for (it might be standing room only, however, so get there early). So even if you didn’t sign up, come by anyway. Preference of course will go to people who actually have tickets for the event, even though they were free–that’s only fair.
Everyone with a ticket, and most likely everyone else that attends, will get something really cool. Trust me on this. Plus, there will be some interesting surprises announced.
Mainly, though, this is an opportunity to find out more about the creation of the game and the setting, to learn more about Monte Cook Games and the future, and to ask questions of the team that brought you Numenera.
The Tournament
On Thursday and Friday night, from 7 pm to 11 pm, we will have a whole room dedicated to the first round of a two-round Numenera scenario. There are eight tables on Thursday night and four on Friday night.
On Thursday night the event (RPG1345850) will be in the Marriott, in the Marriott Ballroom 8. On Friday, the game (RPG1350704) will be in the Marriott, in Indiana Ballroom C.
The best, most fun team in one of these tables advances to the second round (RPG1346369) on Saturday, run by me. This will be in the Marriott Phoenix room.
Even though these are all sold out, you might want to stop by with generic tickets and see if someone doesn’t show. We want all our tables to be full!
It’s also worth noting that there are other GMs out there running Numenera games at the convention. For example, there’s one on Friday night at 5 PM in the open gaming area, and another at 7 PM in the Hyatt Mezzanine. And there are others too.
Other Stuff
Shanna and I will be giving a seminar about Kickstarter in general and, in specific, about the process of the Numenera Kickstarter from conception to fulfillment and everything that’s involved. This is SEM1345849, and is on Friday from 4 PM to 5 PM.
Ninth World Hub is sponsoring a Numenera fan hangout at Ike & Jonesy’s on Saturday night at 10 PM. We hope to see you there–no tickets required!
I’ll be doing a Geek Seekers panel at GenCon on Saturday at 11 AM.
Looking forward to it all. It’s going to be lots of fun!
