We at Monte Cook Games are continuing to grow our presence at Gen Con in 2016. In 2015, our official events included 35 games of the Strange and 35 games of Numenera, for a total of 70 games. Our booth was 600 square feet and we ran several sessions of No Thank You, Evil! in the booth. When event registration opened last year, our games sold out within hours. Gen Con has informed us that they were among the most chronically oversubscribed at the show, and have asked us to offer even more.
So in 2016, between Numenera, The Strange, and the Cypher System, we’re expecting to run at least 100 game sessions! Our booth this year will be 800 square feet and we will be hosting a bunch of cool surprises. We’re also looking at running loads of No Thank You, Evil! games in a kid-friendly area.
Last year we were helped out by over three dozen volunteer GMs. They ran great games, had a great time, and got some great rewards. We’d love it if you joined their ranks for 2016!
Calling All GMs!
Do you love Numenera, The Strange, and the Cypher System? Do you love the best four days in gaming? Do you love running games and meeting new, enthusiastic gamers?
This is our call-out for volunteers. Why are we reaching out this early? Because Gen Con badge pre-registration is just days away and we want you armed with the best information possible when making your choices. We’d love to have you run as many games as you feel comfortable with, and we offer some pretty good rewards if you run more than one official MCG game. Here’s how it works:
- You let us know you’re interested through this form. You tell us which games you’re most interested in, and how many 4-hour game sessions you’d like to run.
- Our events aren’t scheduled with Gen Con just yet, but in a month or so we’ll have the official schedule of all our games, and we’ll ask you to choose your specific slots. We’ll have games running throughout the waking hours of all four days.
- We provide you with the official adventure (or adventures, if you’re running for more than one game system). You’ll get it in PDF format a few weeks ahead of Gen Con, and then in print, along with all the pre-generated characters and other handouts you need, at the show.
- We ask you to attend a meeting Wednesday evening at Gen Con. That’s where you’ll get your goodies and have a chance to meet the other GMs and the MCG staff. (If you won’t be there Wednesday evening, we can make alternate arrangements.)
- You run your games, meet new gamers, and have a great time!
So, what do you get for taking part? What are these goodies of which we speak?
- If you run at least one official game session for us, you’ll get
- An exclusive print copy of the 2016 MCG Gen Con adventures. This book won’t be available in print anywhere else, at any time!
- Premium seating at all MCG seminars and non-adventure events.
- Our thanks, the thanks of your players, and a sense of a job well done!
- If you run at least two official game sessions for us, we’ll add:
- A GM goodie bag, full of cool and useful stuff for Numenera, The Strange, and Cypher System GMs. (While the details aren’t fully worked out yet, in past years they’ve contained about $50 worth of fun and useful stuff.)
- If you run at least four official game sessions for us, we’ll add:
- A GM badge. That’s right, your Gen Con badge is free! (But note: If you’re getting a hotel room via the Gen Con system, you’ll still need to register and pay for your regular Gen Con badge before hotel registration opens. When you get to Gen Con you swap it for your GM badge and a refund of your original badge. Sorry, that’s Gen Con’s system, not ours.)
We ask that any volunteer be:
- 18 years of age or older (with rare exceptions);
- Friendly, kind, patient, trustworthy, helpful, outgoing, organized, well-groomed, and punctual;
- Able to interact with many different personality types in a calm, friendly manner;
- And committed to the games you sign up for. We have to plan around your sign-ups, so please don’t sign up if you’re in doubt.
Join our band of wonderful volunteers! Sign up to run official Gen Con game sessions now!
