What do you call someone who’s thought about GMing—who’s maybe always wanted to give it a shot—but who hasn’t quite taken the plunge?
Come February, you’re going to call that person a GM! Because we’re declaring January to be National New GM Month. (It’s not really restricted to just the US—but we like the acronym NaNewGaMo.)
What, you ask, is New GM Month all about? Well, we’re going to reach out to those people we just described—folks who have been thinking about GMing, but don’t quite know where to start—and give them what they need to run their first game: Inspiration, advice, and a step-by-step process that guides prospective GMs up to and through their first game, running it without a hitch and having a great time doing it.
Starting on Monday, January 5th, we’ll run a month-long seminar in the form of twice-weekly blog posts. Each session will take the novice through a step or two in the process. We’ll have a forum manned by experienced GMs ready to answer questions, provide additional support, and facilitate discussion.
It’s not all academic, by any means—this is a hands-on seminar. And by the end of the month, the prospective GM won’t be “prospective” any more: He’ll have run his first full-on RPG session!
If you’re a regular reader of this blog, there’s a good chance you’re already an experienced GM. Please spread the word—particularly to any of your friends who you think might be interested. If you’ve never stepped into the world of GMing yourself, take part! We guarantee you’ll find it engaging, interesting, and fun.
Check back in early January, and join us for NaNewGaMo!
