What do you call someone who’s thought about GMing—who’s maybe always wanted to give it a shot—but who hasn’t quite taken the plunge?
Come February, you’re going to call that person a GM! Because this January is our third annual New GM Month! (formerly known as National New GM Month, or NaNewGaMo)
Creating New GMs!
What, you ask, is New GM Month all about? Well, we’re reaching out to those people we just described—folks who have been thinking about GMing, but don’t quite know where to start—to give them what they need to run their first game: Inspiration, advice, and a step-by-step process that guides prospective GMs up to and through their first game, running it without a hitch and having a great time doing it.
If you’re a regular reader of our website, there’s a good chance you’re already an experienced GM. But you probably know people who’ve considered GMing but haven’t quite gotten there yet. So please spread the word—you can post this article to social media with those little round buttons below. And if you’ve never stepped into the world of GMing yourself, take part! We guarantee you’ll find it engaging, interesting, and fun.
Here’s How It Works
Starting Tuesday, January 3rd, we’ll run a month-long seminar in the form of twice-weekly posts here on montecookgames.com. Each session will take the novice through a step or two in the process, with a brief lesson on an aspect of GMing followed by some brief, enjoyable activities that actually get you ready to run your first game. We’ll have a forum manned by experienced GMs ready to answer questions, provide additional support, and facilitate discussion.
It’s not all academic, by any means—this is a hands-on seminar. And by the end of the month, the prospective GM won’t be “prospective” any more: She’ll have run her first full-on RPG session!
Check back in early January, and join us for New GM Month!
