Monte Says is a regular column in which Monte talks about topics related to the Cypher System—or anything else on his mind!
We at Monte Cook Games love the holidays. It’s a great time of year for us. It’s usually not too busy, because a lot of our attention is focused on the spring and summer months. That’s when our big deadlines usually come around, when we take on new and special initiatives, and when we often attend multiple conventions. Spring and summer can get crazy. But winter’s usually not too bad, and that lets us take some time to slow down, catch our breath, get caught up, and recharge our creative energies.
Personally, I’m happy to carry on a tradition from the old days of when I worked at TSR, in that the whole company basically “shuts down” from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day. That’s a time to spend with our friends and families, relax, and play games! My dad always really made a big deal out of Christmas for my family when he was alive. A love of Christmas is instilled deep in me for that reason. I love all the traditions, the music, giving gifts—the whole thing.
The holidays are also time to reflect. I know I’ll be thinking about the past year with fondness. It’s been a really good year. We Kickstarted a brand new game for families called No Thank You, Evil! which comes out in February. We can’t wait for you to see it. We delivered the Numenera Boxed Set, which I think is probably one of the most amazing RPG products ever produced. I’m so proud of our team in that regard. We also Kickstarted a whole new line of Numenera products with the Into the Ninth World Kickstarter, the first of which, Into the Night, is already out. We released a ton of other great products in 2015 as well, had a very successful and rewarding GenCon, had a big party this fall, and even found time to completely overhaul our website.
And the amazing thing is, 2016 looks to be an even better, more exciting year. Wait until you see what we have planned!
For now, though, please accept our fondest thanks for all your support of MCG in 2015. It was a great year because you made it a great year for us. We wish you a joyous and safe holiday season. As I said, we’re closing up shop until 2016, so we’ll see you all in January!
