The Strange Kickstarter Backers: The Strange corebook is coming off the press, and we’re looking forward to seeing the first copies—the copies overnighted to our office for quality-control review—hopefully tomorrow. The Strange Player’s Guide is already in our warehouse. This is such an exciting time for a project like this!
And it’s about to get pretty exciting for you, too: The corebook needs to ship to our warehouse and get processed in, and we have a couple of minor fulfillment ducks to get into their rows, but at this point we’re only a couple of weeks from shipping books!
The Strange Fan Kit: The Strange Fan Kit shipped to most domestic backers late last week, and will go out to remaining backers over the next few days. (A few of you who placed late orders via BackerKit might have to wait a tiny bit longer as we get your personalized goodies finished up.) It’s exciting to have shipped the first physical reward—if you ordered one, look for it to arrive soon!
Read This to Get Your The Strange Kickstarter Rewards: We covered the fulfillment process in overview last month, but this stuff is super important, so here it is again in greater detail:
First, make sure emails from montecookgames.com don’t go to your spam folder. Do this now—don’t worry, the rest of this update will wait!
All done? Excellent.
You’ll receive an email from our store in a couple of weeks (maybe even a little less, but be patient if that’s not the case). It will contain instructions on how to log into the MCG store.
Once in, you’ll see a page that shows all your Kickstarter rewards—those you might have already received (if, for example, we’ve just sent you a Fan Kit), those available when you log in, and those you’ll receive in the future (if you’re getting books that aren’t coming out right away, like The Dark Spiral or The Strange Bestiary). There will also be a comp code for each of those items, and a comp code for any shipping allowance you’re entitled to.
Put the items you’re ready to receive into your shopping cart.
From this point forward, it’s just like checking out at any online store. You can double-check your shipping address in your account info. Apply your comp codes at checkout to get your items for free (and to discount your expedited or overseas shipping). Add things to your shopping cart if there’s anything else you’d like to get while you’re at the store (perhaps to make the most of your shipping discount). Then check out!
Once you’ve checked out from the store, your order will be shot over to our warehouse, where we will begin packing it out the very next day! (We expect a pretty big rush early on, so please be patient that first week—we normally ship orders within 24 hours, but it may take an extra few days to work through the initial load.)
Here’s a recap:
- You’ll get an email from the MCG store in about two weeks with links and instructions
- Follow the link to your Kickstarter fulfillment page on the MCG store
- Load your shopping cart and go through store checkout
- We’ll ship your rewards within a few days!
It’s super important that you follow these steps—this is how you confirm you’re ready to receive your rewards, choose your shipping method, and make a last double-check of your shipping address. We won’t ship your rewards until you do this!
Overseas backers: We receive a lot of requests to hold back on shipping rewards until you can get a bunch of stuff at once (to save on shipping costs). Simple enough—just don’t add your physical rewards to your shopping cart until you’re ready for us to ship them. (You can check out with your PDFs if you like.) Your rewards won’t expire for at least a year, so you can come back later when more of them become available.
The Strange Preview: Can’t wait two weeks? Dying for a look at The Strange now? No problem: We’ve recently put up a hefty preview of The Strange on our web site.Check it out, and maybe pass the link on to your friends who haven’t had a chance to check out The Strange yet. It’s a great way to get other gamers interested, and you’ll be needing to put together a gaming group come August!
Brick-and-Mortar Pre-Order Program: Speaking of gaming buddies, what about folk who missed the Kickstarter but want to make sure they get a copy of the game as soon as possible? We have a cool program only available through brick-and-mortar game stores. Make a paid pre-order for The Strange or The Strange Player’s Guide, then send us a photo or scan of the itemized receipt. We’ll send a PDF of the book to go with the physical copy, giving you both versions for the price of print alone. And the PDF will go out around 1 August, roughly two weeks before the game’s release. Headed for Gen Con? We’d love to see you there—we’re in the exhibit hall, in stand number 1653. (If you have trouble finding us, that’s why—it’s all the way at the back of the exhibit hall, facing the back wall. Given we’ll be so hard to find, it would be awesome of you could help spread the word!)
We’re holding seminars for both The Strange and Numenera. We have some cool things to give to attendees at both events, so don’t miss out! Gamers who participated in our Numenera seminar last year were glad they did. Keep an eye on the MCG Facebook page for further details.
We’re also running a ton of events. As of this moment, almost all of them are already sold out, but if you can’t get in, you have a couple of options. Your first choice is to buy some generic tickets and show up anyway—last year, our sold-out Numeneraevents sometimes had a no-show or two. A more reliable choice is to run a game of your own!
